Sheinbaum Calls Assembly in Zocalo Amid Tariff Challenge

The president of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, has called for an assembly at the Zócalo to address the recent tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. Sheinbaum announced that she has considered a series of measures in response to these tariffs, which will be revealed after her phone conversation with Trump this coming Sunday.

During a morning conference, Sheinbaum confirmed that the phone call with the U.S. president will take place next Thursday but did not specify the exact time. The president urged to maintain calmness and serenity amid this challenging trade situation, assuring that Mexico has the strength necessary to overcome it.

Regardless of the outcome of the conversation with Trump, Sheinbaum plans to hold an informational assembly at the Zócalo in Mexico City. This gathering in the Historic Center is expected to convey a message of unity and defense of Mexican sovereignty, as well as present the action plan regarding these tariffs.

From the Ministry of Economy, led by Marcelo Ebrard, efforts are underway to accelerate investments from U.S. companies in Mexico. Additionally, legal actions are being prepared against the tariffs, as they could violate the trilateral trade agreement T-MEC, and Mexico could respond similarly to how Canada and China have done.
